“A Conspiracy of Kings” — Book Review

So I finally got a copy of “A Conspiracy of Kings,” the latest book in Megan Whalen Turner’s “Thief” series.  For any of you who have been here before, you know I love this series.  There’s just something about it.

Each of the books is written from a different perspective, this one from that of Sounis.  This worked for me because he was a character from the first book who I liked but who we really didn’t know a lot about.  And although Gen is by far my favorite character (one of my favorites ever), there was enough of him in the book that I still felt he was an integral part to the larger story.

While “The King of Attolia” is still my favorite of the series, this one was definitely worth reading.  I’m even hoping Turner writes more of the world of Attolia.

Is it good enough?

I know, I’ve been writing this book for a long time.  And here’s why in two words:  Chapter One.  I’ve rewritten this chapter so many times I can’t even count.  First it had too much telling, too much backstory.  Then it didn’t hook readers fast enough.  Then…well you get the idea.  I hope I’ve finally overcome all of these flaws to have a chapter one that catches the readers attention, introduces the mc, and also leaves enough unanswered questiosn that the reader wants to keep reading.

Let me know what you think.  You can access it under the “My Book” tab at the top of the page.

What do you think?

I saw this new theme on wordpress and I really liked how it looked and felt — and I was getting really bored with my old one.  My only concern is whether there’s too much pink for the background.  I really like it, but is it too much?

16,000…and counting

I logged on to my blog this morning with the intention of posting something — and truly I really didn’t know what…until I looked over and saw 16,000 sitting there in my counter.  It looked so pretty, so even, so many zeros.  Thanks to everyone who keeps looking.
